We've had a pretty good couple of days (I think). About six months ago we started her on Depo shots, for obvious reasons. Well, they had the opposite of the intended effect and that which was only a once a month nightmare has been constant since last November. It finally stopped, and she saw the Dr. on Friday, who is putting her on the pill. Not the perfect solution, but anythings better than what we've been through. My mother thinks she should have a hysterectomy, and I am so torn about that. It's true that her monthly cycle is unmanageable. It's true that it would be disastrous if she would become pregnant, but how to I take an innocent such as her and subject her to surgery?
I took her for a haircut and went for a whole new look. It's a cute little short, cool-for-summer 'do, and she loves it. It was a lot of fun watching her reaction to it. It will be a lot easier to deal with in the morning, too!

I doubt if any doctor would agree to do surgery. Another factor to think about, though, might be the side effects of the pills she is on now, and any she would need to take after post-surgery.
I had to respond to this. I'm the Grandfather who does most of her care. Any doctor who wouldn't agree would be suspect. Do you actually believe that they would let that child bleed nonstop for the rest of her life?!
Not withstanding the fact that things of this nature (along with feces, urine, etc.) are finger paints to her, there is her health to consider. What impact do you think this is having on her body?
Hmm, what a dilemma. I have a typical teen who has depression issues and therefore was making a mess of herself as well. We tried the Depo shot but had to have them change the dose a little. Can't they do something like that for your daughter? Maybe she needs a little bit stronger or different type dose? Have you had a 2nd Gyno opinion? Maybe girls with ds have different needs when it comes to birth control. Can you find a gyno that specializes in ds?
Anyway, I feel your pain. This is so hard to handle. Not looking forward t it with my little ds girl either.
The Dr has taken her off the depo and put her on Birth control pills. I have to put them in yogurt or pudding every morning, but so far it is working. She (Dr) says we may need to adjust the dosage as time goes on, but it is working like a charm for now. It is so wonderful just to be able to hand Chelsea her school clothes in the morning instead of the major production it has been for the past 6 months.
